Classroom in the forest
The "Classroom in the Forest" program started in 2007 with the purpose of giving local schoolchildren the opportunity to use the forest as a resource to study the Science lessons related to environment and human development.
The joint work of teachers and environmental educators has resulted in an educational product that enables students to acquire the knowledge of the official programs in a significant way, since being in the presence of the object of study give them a better understanding and remembrance of the information than the traditional system. The program evaluation in 2011 demonstrated its effectiveness as a teaching tool for formal education and allowed to illustrate the usefulness and importance of protected areas as places of learning.
Furthermore, by developing lessons from a context closer to reality, the experience allows them to reinforce attitudes, values and behaviors directed to the care of the environment, empowering them to take responsibility in environmental terms.
